Rodanthe, Waves and Salvo are simply
delightful, surrounded by breath-taking
vacation
rentals and miles of gorgeous
beaches. Access to the sound is terrific
for kiteboarding and windsurfing fanatics.
Bird watchers will love the proximity
to the Pea Island National Wildlife
Refuge. The area is dominated by campgrounds
both large and small as well as numerous
rental houses.
Many of the
restaurants,
shops and markets are seasonal with
many closing during the winter months
and reopening the following Spring.
Many of these same businesses are
family-owned and not chain franchises.

at the house most of the week but

I've been coming to OBX for 4 years
now and love it every time. This year
we are staying in Rodanthe and looking
for any comments or suggestions about
the area. How far are the food stores,liquor
stores,ect. Also wondering how the
temps are mid to late May?? Never

Hatteras
or Duck/Corolla?
Planning a vacation to OBX and am
trying to decide between Hatteras,
Avon area or Duck/Corolla, with oceanfront
rental in either location. From what
I understand Duck/Corolla is newer
and more residential and rentals seem
to be more costly. Hatteras area appears
to be less populated, and rentals
less costly. I'm trying to determine
the benefits or drawbacks to each
area. A couple of specific questions
I have are:
How long is drive to each area once
you get over bridge? Are there enough
'large' grocery stores; video rentals
and restuarants in each area? Is the
beach area different in either area
or access to beach from the homes
(in things read on Hatteras rental
descriptions don't mention 'private
boardwalk to beach')? Any and all
information would be appreciated.
