Avon
is just what you would dream
a small seaside town would be.
Nice beaches, a great pier the
kids would probably love throwing
a line off of even if they don't
catch a thing. Avon is very
laid quaint and back; beautiful
and serene. Take beach toys
for the kids, some kites that
is all they will need to be
happy. The Hatteras lighthouse
is not far down the road. Take
the kids on the ferry over to
Ocracoke
and go to the little pirate
shop called Teaches Hole.
Many of
the restaurants,
shops and markets are seasonal
with many closing during the
winter months and reopening
the following Spring. Many of
these same businesses are family-owned
and not chain franchises.

Great
stay in Avon
Just wanted to say our family
vacationed in Avon last week
and had a wonderful time. I
had checked the message board
many times for info before our
trip. I found all info both
helpful and correct. We booked
through Hatteras Realty and
had great service. With kids
we didn't venture far from the
pool or beach. Shopped at Food
Lion and smaller grocery retailers
and found prices to be ok. Gas
prices seemed to also be average.
All in all we thought it was
a beautiful place for a family
vacation. Thanks for all the
helpful info. We are already
planning a trip next year. Read

Questions
about Avon
I have been a long time visitor
to the outer banks, and can
hardly wait to go down again
this 4th of july week :) I am
staying in Avon this time, looking
forward to checking out the
southern beaches! I am also
looking foward to finally getting
my Italian Greyhounds down to
the beach too!
I would greatly appreciate some
suggestions on the following:
1- a great place for a sunset
in the avon area?
2-convenient slip for a kayak,
and rental place too!
3- Restaurants not to miss?
My boyfriend is a professional
chef, I would like to show him
some of the best on the islands...willing
to drive!
4-any reccomended activities
that i can involve the dogs
in? restaurants, or whatever.
I look forward to your responses! Thanks
in advance! Read

Avon
area with teens
We will be first timers to the
OBX in mid-July. After reading
through some of the posts on
traffic....patience is at the
top of the to-bing list. My
question is: will the teens
13-17 be happy with activities
available in Avon? Can anyone
go windsurfing on the sound?
Thanks! Read

time. This year we are staying
in Rodanthe and looking for
any comments or suggestions
about the area. How far are
the food stores,liquor stores,ect.
Also wondering how the temps
are mid to late May?? Never
had a bad trip yet and looking
forward to this year as well.

Hatteras
or Duck/Corolla?
Planning a vacation to OBX and
am trying to decide between
Hatteras, Avon area or Duck/Corolla,
with oceanfront rental in either
location. From what I understand
Duck/Corolla is newer and more
residential and rentals seem
to be more costly. Hatteras
area appears to be less populated,
and rentals less costly. I'm
trying to determine the benefits
or drawbacks to each area. A
couple of specific questions
I have are:
How long is drive to each area
once you get over bridge? Are
there enough 'large' grocery
stores; video rentals and restuarants
in each area? Is the beach area
different in either area or
access to beach from the homes
(in things read on Hatteras
rental descriptions don't mention
'private boardwalk to beach')?
Any and all information would
be appreciated. Thanks for taking
the time to respond. Read
