The island of Ocracoke is a part of the Outer Banks of North Carolina. It is one of the most remote islands in the Outer Banks, as it can only be reached by ferry or private boat. The island offers 16 miles of unspoiled beaches. All of the beaches along Ocracoke Island are part of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. For the best shell collecting, the Outer Banks is the place to go. Any of the ocean facing beaches in North Carolina will produce nice shells.
Teach's Hole Blackbeard Exhibit and Pirate Specialty Shop was established on Ocracoke Island in 1992. The Pirate Specialty Shop offers over one thousand items that relate to piracy.
