Subject: Jockeys Ridge
I wonder if anyone has advice for hiking/climbing Jockeys Ridge in the early morning with kids. Where to park, best route to the top, etc. Thanks!

I would suggest that you talk to the people at Kitty Hawk Kites. They will tell you all you need to know about the park.

Park on the state park lot associated with the Ridge, it's on the north side. Climb UP. It's not all that big. Just fun. You'll figure it from everyone else - just follow the trail.

No particular route, just start hiking and be ready for a spectacular view from the top.

Follow the boardwalk from the main parking lot to the observation platform. From there, most folks walk straight towards the top of the dune that is visible directly in front of them.

This year, I saw some folks leave the platform and walk to the right of the dune (way to the right), and make their way to the top. The slope there is MUCH less steep and easier walking. You may want to find that path and avoid following the rest of the herd.
