This may have been discussed before, so plz dont jump down my throat..but we are currently planning our Fall 2010 trip. We usually arrive on or around Sept 19th. We know that the ocean temps. are still comfortable for swimming, but what about a swimming pool? Do we need to have it heated, or is it still warm enough to swim in? Thank you any input!

Pool heaters typically heat only 8 to 10 degrees above the air temp. Keep in mind that heated pools are not hot tubs

we NEVER heat the pool as it never feels warm enough even with it.

we have warm water then typically. Winds will make a difference in water temps up to 8 degrees, pools are not effected in that way, depending on how you like the water it should be nice.

Were were down week of 9/6. Pool was very chilly mainly because we had lots of rain in the beginning of the week. Had the heater turned on and within 24 hours it was up over 80 degrees. Had to shut it off.

Personally, I'm an ocean person for the most part, so I doubt I would pay for heated pool, but if the pool is important to have at a comfortable temp, then it would be a good idea to have it heated. That time of year can be somewhat unpredictable temp-wise.

Thanks everyone. I guess we will go with heat, especially since we will be on the beach most of the day and the pool would be used mostly in the evening. Hate to fork over the dough for that heating fee, but I guess its better than having a pool no one can swim in!

I'm #771. Since we called on Wednesday for the heat, they were nice and charged us less than half of the $150.00.

Thanks 771. Thats something to think about. Maybe wait and see..then decide if we need it. I didnt know they would allow us to do it mid-trip. Appreciate the tip!

One of the houses we're renting in Aug 2010 has 'solar heat' for free. I doubt that we'll need it that time of year, but if by chance it is a cooler than normal summer, we'll probably use that pool more than our second house where we'd have to pay for the heat.(we got a large group and have rented 2 houses next to each other)

I wonder what impact adding 40 or 50 gallons of hot water from the HW tank would have on a pool. Using the garden hose you could drain the tank from either the tank spigot, or by hooking to the hot spigot for to the washing machine.

Probably wouldn't make a big difference in cold wheather, but might bring it up a degree or 2 in Sept.

The water heater won't make a dent in warming up a 10,000 gallon pool. Try pouring a glass of hot water into a cold bathtub first and see what happens before screwing around with the plumbing in a house you don't own. Is a water heater designed to heat a pool? I didn't think so.

840--825 is trying to yank someone's chain--you can't take everyone seriously here! I think trying to get a rise from folks is the favorite pastime of some posters, and they often seem to be pretty successful at it.

Someone else was talking about that. They had drained the hot tub and water tank, the refilled the hot tub from the hose. I cant imagine that would actually be enough water to warm a pool though.
