Subject: What is your most vivid OBX memory?
This is strange, but something I will always remember the OBX for: The O.J. veredict. I remember sitting on the beach, and suddenly seeing people rushing back to their houses. I asked someone what was going on, and they said, "they have a verdict!" I remember grabbing my kids and hurrying back to the house to watch the coverage live. I have lots of wonderful memories as well, but that one will never go away.

I was 25, and it was the first time I had ever seen the ocean in my life. Its been 14 years, and 14 trips since, but I will never forget the sight, sounds and smells of that first view.

Katrina. We were there that week, and watched the gas prices triple on the island due to the hype.

Being evacuated due to Isabel, and then seeing Sea Dunes Townhomes in Kitty Hawk (where we had been staying) flooded during a clip on Dateline NBC. I couldnt believe it was the same place we had just left.

A wave top broke over the southern end of the Bonner bridge causeway's north bound lane and drenched our car. Took the wipers 4 sweeps to shed the water. This happened late April years ago (16+ yrs.)during a long lived Nor'easter.

In the 1950s riding with family to Buxton and seeing thousands of ghost crabs going across l2 and hearing the crunch as we drove over them. Now its hard to find one, even during the day time.

2003 in Avon. Our first night. My son and I stood on the rooftop deck and watched while 2 seperate thunderstorms merge over the sound. When they came together, the sound of the thunder and the initial lightening bolts were insane. We quickly retreated !!

In 2003, my kids were out on boogie boards. A dolphin appeared out of no where, jumped high in the air and then rode the wave in to shore beside them. I was sitting on a chair in the surf, and could see every inch of the dolphin as it came in, then turned around and swam away. Coolest thing Ive ever seen.

We have so many good memories, but the most vivid for me has to be riding up Rt. 12 towards Corolla, dealing miserably with the congestion thru Duck, in the final stretch of the trip (which averages @ 9 hours...) when suddenly I see the rooftops of Timbuck II and the red exterior of The Cotton Gin. Suddenly, it's like the world explodes into technicolor and I get the goofiest smile on my face because we're finally back.

Seeing the Cape Hatteras light house for the first time, and climbing to the top. The view from the top is amazing!

We were in the OBX when O.J. went on the run in his white Bronco. I remember being glued to the television wondering what was going to happen. That is definitely not my most vivid memory, though. Have lots of others.

fav obx memory was walking over the dune on pea island about a mile or two south of oregon inlet,to go trout fishing. walked over the dune and there were about 9-10 girls sunbathing in the nude. thought i'd died and gone to heaven. none of them were shy either.

In 2008 we went to Cardova to see the wild horses and I loved driving on the beach along the ocean and that had been my favorite memory of our trips to the OBX. Then we got married on the beach in SNH this year and I was having trouble concentrating on my vows because I was so amazed at the powerful ocean and beautiful sky. Those are my two fav memories so far. I'm looking forward to making more great memories in the OBX.

320/322 We were there this year during 'high school week' and never had a problem with any of that. Never even saw any drunks.

It was this year. My daughter wanted to find a sand dollar. It was all she talked about. We kept trying to tell her that finding a sand dollar would be pretty difficult. Our last day, she walked right to where the waves were breaking, reached down, and pulled an intact sand dollar the size of her palm out of the surf. The look on her face was priceless.
