Subject: how much has it changed

how much has hatteras changed since isabell. i was there a year after it happened so its been a while and i am trying to get friends together to come down. does any one know if the genral mitchell was rebuilt or what ever happened to that?

That vacant spot on the right coming out of Hatteras is where the General Mitchel used to be,I miss it as it was the first place I stayed on Hatteras.

we would always stay there. we always went there to go scuba diving twice a year and we stayed there it was a nice place. they should rebuild it or the seagull should buy it and expand.

We have a home in Hatteras Village and Isabel was devastating to many especially north of the village where the breach occurred. The entire village has pretty much rebounded and is back together, I'll say better than ever except for the breached area. The General Mitchell area is vacant, the Seagull is only half the size of its original, the old Sanbar & Grille never rebuilt, Fish Tales has closed, the Pelican Tackle Shop & Gas station never rebuilt. However up north in that vicinity a huge condo/ hotel complex was created, the Hatteras cabanas have rebuilt, and an upscale shopping complex, Stowe On 12 has been built. This area still could use further development and opportunity for investors, however the remainder of the village is fairly the same as it used to be six years ago previous to Isabel. More homes down by the ferry area and a couple of new restaurants there also. Austin Creek Grille has closed and is now a Dirty Dicks. The Channel Bass restaurant is closed and for sale. All said, the village and the entire island for that matter have been heavily affected by the economy just as anywhere else in our country, but all in all the village looks good. It could use your support, so come on down!

thanks for the info. i am trying to get some old friends together for the summer to come down for a week to enjoy and get away from maryland for a week wish it could be longer but money it to tight to do that. who knows we might take the bikes down also i know i am taken my dive gear might try to get one dive in before we leave good old hatteras..
